Traverse the Overlander Falls Trail, transformed into a mesmerizing work of art by a gentle blanket of snow. Watch as the falling snow gracefully envelops the lush surroundings, creating a tranquil cocoon that muffles all sounds, allowing you to experience a serene and meditative journey.

Discover the ever-changing landscape shaped by the seasons as you explore the captivating Rearguard Falls and Cranberry Marsh areas. Never tried it before? It's like floating on top of the snow and doable for anybody - a must try. You'll be happy you did!

Be prepared before you go

1. If you're trying to decide between the two activities, cross-country skiing requires practice and instruction and can be more expensive to rent. Snowshoeing is a great alternative for and easy for anyone to pick up.

2. Layer up for cold weather, wind, and it will be easy to remove layers when you're working up a sweat.

3. Choose wool socks as opposed to cotton for deep snow.

4. Protect your eyes and skin. Sunscreen and sunglasses are a must.

5. Hydrate and bring high-energy snacks

6. Make sure you leave everything as you found it. Do not leave any food or garbage behind.

7. Be prepared before you go - know where you're going, approximately how long you'll be gone, and never cross country ski or snowshoe alone. Always leave an itinerary with someone and report in upon your return.

8. Be aware that you'll be exploring areas in a wilderness environment with little to no cell-phone connection.

9. Always check the current avalanche bulletin before you head out

10. Dogs are permitted at Camp Creek, but they are not allowed on the trails at Jackman Flats

Created over 11,000 years ago by the wind and ice of the last ice age, this park is a true wonder of nature. It boasts a unique ecosystem and rare plant communities, as well as shifting sand dunes that will leave you in awe. This is a fantastic destination for recreational activities, especially hiking. As you wander through the park, keep an eye out for the Juniperus-Stereocaulon plant community, which can't be found anywhere else in British Columbia. Get your hiking boots ready for a memorable adventure!

Cranberry Marsh

Nestled just a stone's throw away from Valemount Best Western, Cranberry Marsh is a hidden gem in Valemount. Canoe Mountain provides a stunning scenic backdrop for a leisurely bike ride or a relaxed stroll through the lush greenery. The marsh is also a birdwatcher's paradise, with over 140 different bird species calling it home.In the warmer months, visitors can take to the still waters in a canoe, while in winter, ice skating or a game of pond hockey are popular activities. With the majestic Cariboo, Monashee, and Rocky Mountains standing tall in the distance, Cranberry Marsh is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a peaceful and picturesque natural setting.

This trail is a popular spot for birdwatching and leisurely walks (both in warm and colder times), but don't worry, you can still find some peaceful moments during quieter times of the day. It's open all year round and is always a sight to behold, no matter when you visit.

You're more than welcome to bring your furry friends along, just make sure they're on a leash to keep everyone safe and happy.

Overlander Falls Trail

The trail to Overlander Falls is a stunning adventure that runs alongside the river, surrounded by majestic mountains. Although there are some ups and downs, it is mostly easy to navigate, providing a fun challenge for all skill levels. Along the way, you can stop and take in the beautiful views of the crystal clear water and the breathtaking canyon. About halfway through the trail, you'll find Hogan's Camp, which used to be a railway contractor site, adding to the trail's historical significance. You can access the trail from either the Robson Meadows campground or the Overlander Falls rest area, making it a convenient and enjoyable outdoor activity for everyone.
